We Vote & We Count Our Blessings
As part of the narrative of Hormones and High Heels, we address a variety of topics that have to do with the life circumstances of women and our womanhood, all of which makes this such a rich and juicy place to land. This platform was designed and created to be informative, fun, inspirational and a means for communicating a vast number of thoughts, ideas, and ideals amongst and about females, from the very young to the very mature and seasoned. To that end, today I would like to focus on a bit of wisdom that has come into my heart, mind, and spirit with the hope that its sentiment will be a balm upon us all.
I will begin by stating the obvious, but I ask that you bear with me because I am going somewhere with this. Currently we are living in a society that has bombarded us with front and center messages of unbridled and seething hatred. Images of raging, blatant, sickening, and heartbreaking racism, classism, ageism, and sexism have been smeared across the canvas of everyday life in the United States of America daily, hourly, and almost minute-by-minute. And it really doesn’t matter what race, nationality, ethnicity, age, generation or gender identity we hold claim to, if you have any sensibility, you have undoubtedly witnessed the intended degradation of our humanity.
So what do we do with this constant assault on our psychological health and wellbeing? How do we combat this vicious beast that walks seemingly unleashed upon our dignity? What is our response to this unrelenting barrage of injustices? How do we answer a system designed to dehumanize us and make us as debased as its creators?
We Vote!!!!! We Vote!!!!! WE VOTE!!!!!
And We Count Our Blessings!!!!!
As First Lady, (she still is to me) Mrs. Michelle Obama said, “when they go low, we go high”. And heavens knows, we have seen them grovel in the nastiest nastiness they have been able to conjure and find. And for that, we first count our blessings that we are not them. Then we count our blessings because we are still standing with honor as a people and a nation who has not bowed down to the gutter mentality and behavior. We count our blessings of strength and beauty and resilience, for we are not bent nor deterred by the viscous attacks and bullying tactics. We count our blessings of courage and hope and purpose, for we have and will surmount these moments of trials and tribulations. We count our blessings of majesty and honor and might, for it is in our blood to survive and thrive. We count our blessings of integrity, determination, and reason for we know our value is not defined or defiled by their definitions.
We count our blessings of refusing to embrace fear and helplessness and powerlessness and defeat because we are not called to live on our knees or on our bellies or with our heads and eyes averted the ground or with our hands in the air except in submission and supplication to Supreme Majesty, Ultimate Love, and Everlasting Goodness. We count our blessings because our truth is true and it cannot be diminished, demeaned, or destroyed by the lie. We count our blessings because during this time of ignorance, instability, and insanity, that is our wisdom, our balance, our fortitude, and our peace.
